2026 Camping Plans

This is your chance to communicate with us about your camping needs. Due to our severely limited space, Child Care camping will be strictly limited to working crew members, their SOs, and kids. If you've camped with people who are not affiliated with Child Care in the past, you are welcome to do so again but it'll have to be somewhere else. This is a health and safety issue for our crew, and it outweighs an individual's desire to camp with their extended friend group. Camp small, pack in tight, be prepared to be flexible as we work together to make the whole campground as livable as possible!

Remember that space is extremely limited. Please do everything you can to limit the number of tents for your party by doubling- or tripling-up and keep your tents on the small side. A good rule of thumb is to plan on bringing a tent one size larger than the number of people occupying it (1 person in a 2-person tent, 4 people in a 6-person, etc.). SO's need to occupy the same tent as their sponsor whenever possible! Keep in mind that your tent is really just for sleeping, and who comes to Fair to sleep?!?

Schedule requests are not guaranteed, but we will do our best to get people the hours and locations they prefer. Each crewmember is responsible for three 5-hour shifts.

Thursday/Monday and Overnight shifts are very limited and are strictly reserved for veteran crew. These are highly desirable shifts and nobody "owns" them. We'll try to make it as equitable as possible, so nobody will work these every year.

Limitations, considerations, situations, etc.

The Child Care operation has spread out across Fair, with an area in Xavanadu and a staff presence throughout the Wally's Way family area, in addition to our usual area at Sesame Street.

If you have any considerations that we need to factor in as we create the schedule, please describe your situation below and we'll do our best to accommodate. We'll do our best to prioritize physical limitations and the care of small children above personal preference. Thanks in advance for your flexibility and cooperation.

Special Skills Questionnaire

We have an amazing crew filled with experts in Child Care, special needs training, medical knowledge and many related fields. We'd like to take advantage of those skills by asking people to self-identify by reporting your knowledge below. We'll compile a list that we'll keep behind the desk and give to the Leads and Organizers, so we can call on individuals as the need arises. This is 100% voluntary and we really appreciate anyone willing to step up to help us expand our capacity to serve the Fair! More info will follow as this takes shape. Permission

I agree to allow the OCF Child Care Crew coordinators to add my name to a list of specialists on the crew. This information will be shared within the crew as necessary, but will remain private beyond that. I recognize that I may be asked to perform a function or service over and above the typical duties of a Child Care Crew volunteer. I can rescind this permission at anytime at my own discretion.

Portable Talents

This is something different... As we spread out through Wally's Way and the new Child Care area in Xavanadu, we exploring the creation of spaces for short duration family-friendly entertainment or education events. We're wide open to ideas here. We need to keep a fairly low profile (depending on the spaces and neighbors). Think of it more as ambiance than audience. So, can you play a few cool kid songs on the uke? Or are you a puppeteer? Maybe a storyteller? Let's see what magic we can make for families!
